įor reference, when you listen to a radio announcer when there is music in the background, "ducking" is the technique that lowers the volume of the music when the radio announcer is speaking but then instantly returns the volume of the music when the radio announcer stops speaking. One of the most useful techniques I discovered is "ducking", and Pro-C (FabFilter Software Instruments) makes this super easy to do. Īt first it was a bit annoying, because I had a carefully designed and tested system-which only worked in 32-bit mode-but in retrospect the good aspect was that it led me to explore alternatives, which I might not have done otherwise-especially the high-end effects plug-ins from FabFilter Software Instruments, which now are a key part of my producing system. Now it seems like everything at IK Multimedia has been 64-bit for a long time, but a few years ago it was different. Īfter a while, IK Multimedia started getting onboard for 64-bit computing, and I was able to start using updated versions of a lot-but not all-of my IK Multimedia software. Ī while later, NOTION 4 appeared, and it did 64-bit computing, but there was no 64-bit version of Miroslav Philharmonik, and there was no 64-bit version of SampleTank (IK Multimedia) so for a while I focused more on Kontakt 5 (Native Instruments), MachFive 3 (MOTU), and Twin 2 (FabFilter Software Instruments), along with everything else not from IK Multimedia. At the time, NOTION 3 was the current version.

Several years ago, I was doing everything in 32-bit mode, and during this time I purchased the first version of Miroslav Philharmonik.

I do everything on a 2.8-GHz 8-core Mac Pro (Early 2008) with 32GB system memory and fast internal hard drives, running Mac OS X 10.11.6 (El Capitan), which is the most recent version of Mac OS X this Mac Pro will run (if I want to run anything newer, then I have to get a newer Mac).
